Our featured event: The Thomas Snow Trio with Elizabeth Nicholas Synnot
Old Orchard Beach, Maine – August 3, 2003

Thomas SnowYou are certain to enjoy these pictures from an August 3rd performance with my trio and Elizabeth Nicholas at The Temple at Ocean Park. I have played at theBeth Nicholas Synnot Temple before, but this concert is the most memorable, filled with beautiful musicality (and people!).

I have known Beth for almost twenty years; we grew up only a few miles away from each other. Although she has lived in NYC for almost ten years, we still maintain contact and perform together as often as possible. This concert was a step into new musical territory for Beth and me. In the past, I have worked as her accompanist and she has showcased a repertoire mostly comprised of Broadway selections. At this concert, however, we were double billed as co-leaders for the performance. Additionally, Beth’s choice for repertoire was steeped more in the jazz idiom, delivering beautiful renditions of “My Romance”, “All The Way”, and “Stompin’ at the Savoy”.

Jim LydenBeth and I were joined by the incredible talents of Jim Lyden on bass and Les Harris, Jr. on drums. I have worked extensively with both of them and this trio has fast become an intuitive and sensitive vehicle for playing jazz. The trio features at this concert were “Emily”, “All of You”, and “Armando’s Rumba”. [NB. There is an interesting distinctionLes Harris, Jr. between ‘rhumba’ and ‘rumba’…I realized the spelling difference when comparing an actual Chick Corea CD to the spelling of the same song in a Sher Publication fake book. Check it out!]   Together, this trio has a wonderful sense of one (pun intended) and is a beautiful combination of three creative energies. Visit www.lesharrisjr.com to read and hear more about Les!

This show was a huge success and there are already plans for another performance of this same personnel. Check my calendar of events page on this site for future performances.

Our featured event: Thomas Snow Trio in concert at Mast Cove Gallery
Kennebunkport, Maine – June 11, 2003

Thomas SnowThese pictures are from a June 11th  performance at Jean Briggs’ Mast Cove Gallery in Kennebunkport, ME. At this particular concert, I was joined by the great talents of saxophonist David Wells and long time friend trumpeter Trent Austin. I always love playing at Mast Cove and was happy to include David for his first performance at the Gallery.

Trent AustinAs you may already know, Trent and I have performed numerous times together and are especially enthusiastic about our concerts at Mast Cove. Tales of our first duo concert in that space have become almost legendary…encores led to an entirely new set after the gig while we were joined by other area musicians who dropped in to catch our last number. The denouement of the evening was a bizarre rendition of “Mack the Knife” in every key (including the relative minors) and all styles imaginable; as the clock neared two in the morning, Trent was still playing, although he was slumped on the floor leaning against the wall, somehow lost his tie and shoes! I digress.David Wells Needless to say, Jean is insistent that Trent is on the gig when I book a concert there.

Trent and Thomasm (top); Trent, David and Thomas (bottom)David Wells is an amazing saxophonist who has graced the Portland scene with his formidable talents. Dave is originally from the San Francisco area, lived for a time in London, and then moved here to Maine. He has played with many jazz legends, most recently and notably on a band touring with Rosemary Clooney. After moving here, the news about Dave’s talent spread quickly and he is now a steady staple in our music community. In addition to our gigs together, Dave leads his own trio at the Portland Harbor Hotel and his quartet at the Moose Crossing in Falmouth, ME.
